About the Journal
The Scientific Journal of Gdynia Maritime University (SJ GMU) is an interdisciplinary periodical published continuously since 1975, presenting original results of empirical and theoretical research. Research works published in the Journal mainly focus on broadly understood maritime issues, namely topics related to scientific disciplines such as marine automation, electronic and electrical engineering, civil engineering and maritime transport, mechanical engineering, management and quality sciences, and Earth and related environmental sciences (more).

Current Issue
PREFACE
The current issue of the journal features two articles that deal with issues related to mechanical engineering.
The authors of the article ‘Analysis of strength properties of selected materials for 3D printing’ presents the results of research on the impact of technological parameters on the strength of elements made with the FDM method, and points out the importance of the right choice of materials in designing parts with an optimised structure.
The article ‘Analysis of the cause of tribological damage to valve rockers in a diesel engine’ deals with the mechanisms and consequences of tribological damage in a diesel engine, and emphasises the role of maintenance and diagnostics to ensure the reliability of powertrains.
The second part of the issue presents six articles on management and quality sciences, with a focus on commodity science, cosmetology and the sustainable use of raw materials.
The publication ‘Evaluation of the Efficiency of Oxygen Absorbers During Storage’ evaluates the stability of oxygen absorbers after long-term storage and the impact of packaging materials on maintaining their sorption properties.
The article ‘Sailing activity in sea yacht harbours of the southern Baltic coast’ presents an analysis of yacht traffic in three regions of the southern Baltic Sea, and thus offers data that is important for the design of port services and the development of maritime tourism.
The piece ‘A Practical Approach to Assessing the Oxidative Stability of Cosmetic Butters’ presents a quick and environmentally friendly approach to evaluating the oxidative stability of cosmetic butters, based on the RapidOxy method and the chemical parameters of raw materials.
The article ‘Sustainable Cosmetic Products Based on Natural Plant Oils’ conducts an analysis of 514 skin care oils available on the Polish market, and shows the current formulation trends in connection with minimalism and the sustainable selection of raw materials.
The publication ‘The Commodity Aspects of Using Oat and Wheat Bran in Cosmetic Scrubs’ includes an evaluation of scrubs with oat and wheat bran, and underlines the highly beneficial properties of formulas with added oat bran.
The issue wraps up with the article ‘Motivations and Barriers to the Utilisation of Side-Streams from Pelagic Fish Processing’, which compares the conditions for using by-products from pelagic fish processing in Poland and Norway, and highlights different motivators, market barriers, and the importance of the circular economy.
